War and Peace (Pevear/Volokhonsky Translation) Leo Tolstoy
Publisher: Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group

I have used some of it lately to re-read Tolstoy's splendid WAR AND PEACE which I am convinced is the finest historical novel ever written. I will be reading from the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation, but I have also heard great things about the translation by Anthony Briggs. As Theophrastus notes (and quotes from), Orlando Figes reviewed the Pevear-Volokhonsky translation of War and Peace in November 2007. Since Tolstoy seems to have command of ever facet of literary technique in War and Peace, why should metaphor be an exception? In this case (War and Peace), the Kindle edition is NOT the translation that's mentioned in the product description (Pevear and Volokhonsky). See, here's the thing they don't tell you when they tell you that War and Peace is this great book that nobody reads: War and Peace is a great book that is entirely readable. As james wood puts it in his admiring new yorker review of richard pevear and larissa volokhonsky's translation of war and peace,. For the Williamstown production, director Richard Nelson enlisted the help of celebrated translator team Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky to create a new English-language version. There are two big issues with this translation, depending on where you're sitting. Reading: War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (Pevear and Volokhonsky translation). My edition teeters in at 1273 pages, but some editions go up to 1500 pages.
